Articles of the Day 2/26/14: Circling The Wagons

IDF sees steep rise in submarine operations

“The IDF’s submarine flotilla has seen a sharp increase in the number and duration of its at-sea operations, with a special focus on Israel’s northern neighbor Lebanon.

ccording to a senior Israel Navy officer, 58 percent of the navy’s submarine flotilla’s time at sea in 2013 were in operational deployments, while the remaining 42% were for training purposes. That marks a dramatic increase from the three previous years, when submarines spent just 36% of their time at sea in operational deployments.

The navy’s submarines also conducted 54 special operations in 2013, a similarly sharp increase from previous years. The operations included deployments to the Lebanese coast and deployments lasting several weeks that took the submarines thousands of kilometers from Israel.

The navy’s figures mark a rare revelation on the part of the IDF that suggests the military has significantly upped its operational presence to counter threats from Hezbollah and the more distant Iran.

The new submarines have engines that don’t require surfacing to acquire new air supplies, effectively expanding Israel’s naval (and, reportedly, nuclear) reach and allowing for more distant and long-lasting operations.

According to Brig. Gen. Eli Sharvit, commander of the navy’s Haifa base, the navy’s northern deployments are intended to protect Israel from a “highly operational” Syrian navy, which is armed with “strategic weaponry” and has maintained a powerful presence in the region despite the civil war raging in the country.”

Good article, lots of juicy tidbits here.

Knesset Temple Mount debate raises hackles in Arab world

“The PA asked the Arab League Tuesday to hold an emergency session on Wednesday to discuss Israeli policy toward the Temple Mount, Ma’an news agency reported. “If Israel continues this policy,” said PA ambassador to Egypt Barakat al-Farra, “it proves that it does not want peace but continues to violate international laws and resolutions.”

Jordanian diplomat: Israeli attack on Islamic places will ignite conflict

“Jordan informed Israel that attacking places which are holy to the Islam will ignite a diplomatic conflict between the countries, a Jordanian diplomat told the Turkish news agency Anatolia. The remarks were made against the backdrop of a Knesset debate on the issue of applying Israel sovereignty on the Temple Mount.”

47 Jordanian MPs call to cancel Israel peace treaty over Knesset Temple Mount debate

Jews simply want to the freedom to pray and worship God in their own land. By what right, do Muslims deny them this? How do you think God looks upon this? Muslims condemn themselves by these actions. They are really circling the wagons here. What is it about Jewish prayer at Judaism’s holiest site that frightens Muslims so?

PA ‘Honor Killings’ Up 100% in 2013

“A senior official in the Palestinian Authority (PA) Ministry of Women’s Affairs has reported a rise of over 100% in the number of “honor killings” in 2013 compared to the previous year. The murder of women for tarnishing the “family honor” is still protected under PA law.”

To all those pro-Palestinian groups, many of whom are women, this is what you are defending. Sanctioned murder of women and girls. The PA doesn’t hide it. This is Islam. To all the Leftist, Socialist, Liberals….this is what you are appeasing.  To all the Western politicians…this is what your negotiating with. To Israel…this is what you are giving up your land too. Shame on all of you.

The Truth Behind the Palestinian Water Libels

“Water shortages in the Palestinian Authority are the result of Palestinian policies that deliberately waste water and destroy the regional water ecology. The Palestinians refuse to develop their own significant underground water resources, build a seawater desalination plant, fix massive leakage from their municipal water pipes, build sewage treatment plants, irrigate land with treated sewage effluents or modern water-saving devices, or bill their own citizens for consumer water usage, leading to enormous waste. At the same time, they drill illegally into Israel’s water resources, and send their sewage flowing into the valleys and streams of central Israel. In short, the Palestinian Authority is using water as a weapon against the State of Israel. It is not interested in practical solutions to solve the Palestinian people’s water shortages, but rather
perpetuation of the shortages and the besmirching of Israel.”

Again, I ask, do the Palestinians act like a people who desire peace? Do they show the desire to cease hostility and live in peace with Israel? Are they taking steps to calm tensions? To reduce hate? Are they making efforts to halt violence against Israeli civilians? Can you force peace on a people like this?

Syrian-Lebanese border partly erased by hectic war traffic. Israeli air strike Monday mostly inside Syria

“According to Middle East sources, Israel’s air strikes Monday, Feb. 24, were far more limited in scope than presented – no more than one or two warplanes which aimed four rockets at a single target, an SS-21 surface missile launcher on the Syrian side. Four Hizballah operatives were killed. The hectic traffic of arms, men and smuggling networks between Syria and Lebanon, run by Hizballah and the Syrian military, has virtually obliterated large sections of the border between the two countries.  A broad military zone has taken its place, which is characterized by lofty peaks 1,600 meters high, deep gulches and narrow winding roads through wild vegetation. Traffic moving along those roads is hard to identify. Hizballah arms and missile stores in the Lebanese Beqaa Valley are in free use as strategic reserve supply centers for the units – both Hizballah and Syrian – fighting in border sectors such as the battles in the Qalamoun mountain range. Brig. Gen. Ellie Sharvit, commander of the Navy base in Haifa, touched on this situation Tuesday, when he noted that Israel presumes that any weapons systems reaching Syria have also come into the hands of he Lebanese Hizballah. Israel is therefore on a constant state of alert. He mentioned advanced Yakhont shore-sea missiles as well as top products of Iran’s and Syria’s military industries in this regard.”

The IAF ‘scalpel’ and the epidemic of weapons transfers

“The tens of thousands of rockets and missiles Hezbollah possesses have always come largely from the stores of the Syrian army. Today, though, the balance of power has shifted. Bashar Assad won Qusayr and held the capital thanks to Hezbollah soldiers on the ground and Iranian Quds Force officers at the helm. Qassem Suleimani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force, is now “running the war himself,” according to a 2013 New Yorker profile. Iran, which gave the regime a $7 billion loan in 2013, has been sending troops and arms daily to Damascus.”

Hezbollah says it will respond to Israeli strike

“Beirut: Hezbollah will respond to an Israeli air strike on Monday night that hit one of its bases on the border with Syria, the Lebanese militant group said on Wednesday.
“The new aggression is a blatant assault on Lebanon and its sovereignty and its territory…The Resistance (Hezbollah) will choose the time and place and the proper way to respond to it,” Hezbollah said in a statement.”

Likely another Bulgaria style attack against soft targets abroad. Israel is prepared to absorb these all day long because the weapons they are destroying can cause more damage then these pin prick retaliation attacks by Hezbollah.

PA: Israel Not Cutting Electricity, Giving More

“A senior member of the Palestinian Authority (PA) electricity committee on Wednesday morning denied talk of Israel cutting off power to the PA, given the PA’s 1.4 billion shekels ($400 million) in unpaid bills to the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC).

Despite the immense financial debt that we have accumulated, we are obligated to continue to provide electricity to the PA. The State of Israel owns our company and it has to make a decision on the matter. We must collect this debt,” Ron-Tal added, noting that the PA has ignored repeated requests to pay its debts.”

So Israel is giving the Palestinians free electricity. Yet the world calls for boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against Israel.

Oren’s ‘Plan B’: Unilateral Withdrawal

“Former Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, thinks that Israel should consider beating a unilateral retreat from the biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria, if negotiations with the Palestinian Authority (PA) fail, and the PA heads to the UN with a unilateral bid for statehood.”

I have severe reservations about this idea.  Not because it might put Israel at more risk from terror groups but that it will put Israel at more risk to God’s wrath. He does not want them too give up land he gave to them.

Syrian Islamist Nusra Front gives Iraqi al Qaeda ultimatum

“Abu Mohammed al-Julani, leader of the Al Qaeda-affiliated Syrian rebel A-Nusra Front, has virtually declared war on the rival Iraqi al Qaeda (ISIS): either accept clerical arbitration within five days, or be expelled from Syria “or even Iraq.” The Nusra threat followed the killing of an al Qaeda emissary, Abu Khaled al-Suria, along with several members of his Ahrar al-Sham group, in a suicide attack on its Aleppo headquarters Sunday.”

God continues to make Israel’s enemies fight each other.
