Articles of the Day 3/11/14: The Price For Being Evil
“The shipment contained 181 heavy mortars, 400,000 bullets, and dozens of M-302 rockets that have the capability to strike almost anywhere in Israel.”
All of this destined to kill Israeli civilians.
“The missiles displayed in Eilat port would have given Tehran the capacity to hit as far as Haifa. Future shipments could be more devastating still.”
“Had the shipment reached its destination, Islamic Jihad would have gained possession of weaponry more sophisticated than the dozens of rockets capable of hitting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, many of them produced in Gaza, which Hamas is stockpiling for the inevitable next round of conflict. This would have boosted Islamic Jihad’s prestige in Gaza, and doubtless emboldened it in its ongoing challenges to Hamas. Far more significantly, however, it would have given the Iranians a push-button capacity to wreak havoc all across Israel at a moment of their choosing.
Some of the M-302 missiles on the Klos-C can reach from Gaza to beyond Tel Aviv, all the way to Haifa, Israeli officials said, carrying highly destructive 150 kilogram warheads. And while Hamas, since violently seizing control of Gaza in 2007, must carefully weigh any escalated confrontation with Israel against its need to retain control of the Strip, Islamic Jihad has no such concerns: If Iran were to give the order to fire salvos of the missiles it supplied into Israel, Islamic Jihad would not hesitate.”
“Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lashed out at “hypocrisy” over Iran as he unveiled a shipment of arms allegedly dispatched by Tehran to Gaza. Netanyahu on Monday toured a display of rockets intercepted by navy commandos on the Red Sea last week, and accused the international community of ignoring Iranian support for armed groups while falling victim to an outreach campaign by the new leadership in Tehran. “Iran has not abandoned its deep involvement in terrorism and its ambition to destroy the state of Israel.” Netanyahu said. “What is new is not Iran’s deeds or its lies, but the desire of many in the international community to bury their heads in the sand.”
The Israelis are really making hay out of this coup. It should come as no surprise when/if they hit Iran.
“(CNN) — The U.S. Navy had secret orders this week to be “prepared to act” to stop a cargo ship carrying Iranian arms destined for Gaza, CNN has learned. Navy vessels in the Middle East received orders to move “into the proximity of the ship and act if ordered,” according to a senior U.S. military official familiar with the operation.”
Given the administration’s preference to diplomacy over confrontation I highly doubt this is true. The White House is trying to make the best out of an embarrassing situation, after all, they are claiming that diplomacy can work with Iran. Cutting deals with a terrorist exporter looks pretty bad. While the US looks weak Israel appears strong.
“Israel has voiced fears armed groups in Lebanon and Gaza would deploy exploding drones, in addition to their main rocket arsenals, against Tel Aviv in a future war, the chief of Israeli air defence said. “We will have to cope with dozens of pilotless aerial vehicles, in both the northern and southern fronts,” Major-General Shachar Shohat, told a Tel Aviv security conference on Monday.”
“The U.S. Defense Department announced it was providing $429 million to Israel for further development of its aerial defenses, specifically the Iron Dome system. In a statement, the Defense Department said that the funding would provide increased security for Israel, as well as “significant co-production opportunities” for Israeli and American companies. The system, designed in Israel, is being co-produced by Rafael, Israel Aircraft Industries, and Boeing in the U.S.”
Despite the Obama administration’s efforts to cut funding the aide continues to flow. Praise the Lord!
“The Lebanese-based terror group Hezbollah has been active in Syria, fighting on the side of President Bashar Assad. However, that support, which was reportedly forced on Hezbollah by its backer Iran, has come with heavy costs for the terror organization. Over the last several weeks, the fighting for the rebel-held town of Yabroud has left over 120 Hezbollah fighters dead, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Lebanese Daily Star quotes a Hezbollah source saying a total of 500 Hezbollah fighters have died since the group joined the Syrian war, noting that the Yabroud battle marks a drastic increase in losses.”
If true, that is pretty significant loss of manpower and experience. No doubt Hezbollah has been heavily weakened by the conflict.
“Families of Hezbollah fighters angry their sons are being sent to die in Syria, Saudi paper Al Watan reports • Groundswell of anger first erupted months ago, but has recently grown stronger due to the large number of casualties Hezbollah has sustained.”
The price for being evil.
“GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — A leader of one of Gaza’s secretive jihadi groups says the al-Qaida-inspired movement now has several thousand armed fighters in the seaside strip, posing a formidable threat to both Israel and the area’s Hamas rulers.”
A lot of Israel’s enemies are reaping what they sow these days. And this is very bad timing for Hamas.
“DOHA (Reuters) – Qatar on Monday again dismissed demands by three fellow Gulf Arab states for changes to its foreign policy, calling its independence “non-negotiable” in a further sign that it will continue to aid Islamists such as Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.”
The Qataris are kind of like the ‘French’ of the Middle East. Not really anybody’s friend not really anybody’s enemy. But always pretty annoying.
“Hamas unveiled a rocket-shaped statue Monday showcasing its capacity to strike arch-enemy Israel, as the Jewish state boasted its own haul of captured weapons it claims were bound for Gaza.”
They certainly do worship their rockets. Terror culture.
“Last week, the Washington Institute for Near East Policy issued a report that Egypt was seeking Russia’s advanced S-300 air-defense system, MiG fighter jets, and Kornet anti-tank weapons (which hobbled Israel somewhat in the 2006 Lebanon War).”
“Egypt has been investing in its Navy in recent years, as the Fast Attack Craft they had in service began to age out. Despite the recent revolution and current financial crisis, they seem determined to continue modernizing at all levels.”
“Israel was making concerted diplomatic efforts Monday night to quell tensions with Jordan, after a Jordanian magistrate’s court judge was shot dead at the Allenby border crossing earlier in the day.”
“The IDF maintained on Monday that Zeiter, an ethnic Palestinian who lived in Nablus until 2011, had attacked a soldier and attempted to grab his rifle, an account that Jordanian officials and even some in Israel were finding difficult to swallow.”
The facts will come out and Israel will still be blamed. This is likely a case of Arab Derangement Syndrome (ADS), the spontaneous outburst of violence against Israelis by Arabs. Not to be confused with Muslim Derangement Syndrome (MDS), the spontaneous outburst of violence against any non-Muslim by a Muslim. However, it is common for a person to suffer from both conditions in the Middle East.
