Articles of the Day 4/11/14: Conflicted and Torn
“US Secretary of State John Kerry is the “lapdog of the Arabs,” according to Attorney and senior political commentator Yoram Sheftel, who gave Arutz Sheva on Friday his response to Kerry’s blaming of Israel for peace talk failures this Tuesday. “We witnessed the horror show of the hater of Israel, who blamed us that the peace talks blew up because we didn’t release lowly worthless murderers, and we announced the building of 700 apartment units in ‘settlements’ in Jerusalem; this is how he defines Jewish building in Jewish neighborhoods of the capital,” remarked Sheftel.”
“Deputy Foreign Minister Ze’ev Elkin (Likud) warned on Thursday evening against a deal that would see Israel releasing more terrorists in exchange for the peace talks with the Palestinian Authority (PA) being extended. Elkin warned that agreeing to such a deal so long as the PA does not cancel its unilateral bid at the United Nations would portray Israel as weak and might even topple the government.”
“MK Ayelet Shaked (Bayit Yehudi) said Friday Israel must put an end to “Palestinian blackmail.” “Israel is in a free fall. At first they told us the Palestinians didn’t sign letters of accession to international treaties and conventions, then they told us they signed but didn’t submit, and now they’re telling us they submitted, but will stop the request,” she said. “Now they’re saying it’s too late – the requests have been approved, and they still want to free Israeli-Arab terrorists. Want negotiations? Sure, but you have to put an end to Palestinian blackmail,” she added.”
“Law enforcement authorities would never dare mention seizing Bir Zeit University or any other hornet’s nest,” remarked Ben-Gvir, referring to a town north of Ramallah in which IDF forces were attacked by an Arab mob in late February while trying to arrest a terrorist, eventually forcing them to kill him and another terrorist along with a rioting civilian.”
The IDF is very conflicted and torn because Israeli society is very conflicted and torn. Leftist influence has had a detrimental effect on Israeli society as it has in all countries. Most detrimental is Israel’s standing with God.
“The Netanyahu government ordered Thursday a freeze on the transfer of customs and other deductions to the Palestinian Authority over its unilateral application to UN agencies to bypass negotiations. These moneys, amounting to $115 million a month, will set against the PA’s debts to Israel. The development of offshore gas fields opposite the Gaza Strip will also be halted. The Coordinator of Government Operations informed the PA of these sanctions. Economy Minister Naftali Bennett says his Jewish Home Party will quit the government coalition if Israeli Arabs are released from jail with Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Mahmoud Abbas’s consent to go back to the negotiating table. Bennett said it is unacceptable and immoral for Israel to bow to extortion by terrorists – even if Jonathan Pollard is part of the exchange.”
“The Palestinian Authority (PA) has reached a new low in its ceaseless buzz of anti-Israel rhetoric. Last week a senior official of the PA, and leader of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah faction, claimed Nazi leader Adolf Hitler could have learned from Israel about extermination camps.”
“Horizon 10” is a radar-based observation satellite, with advanced photography capabilities during daylight, at night and in any weather conditions. The launch was jointly carried out by IAI and the Defense Ministry’s Space Administration, which is a part of the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure.”
“U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry declared that Israel’s plans to build additional apartment houses in Gilo, a southern Jerusalem neighborhood beyond the Green Line, are partly responsible for the current impasse in the peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. This indicates profound American misunderstanding of the situation, because Gilo, with more than 40,000 residents, is to be part of Israel under any agreement. Moreover, the peace negotiations have little chance of succeeding as long as the Palestinians demand to partition Jerusalem.”
“From Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to Syria’s use of chemical weapons to the Benghazi situation in Libya and the near-breakdown of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, Americans do not see the White House and State Department providing strong, steady, principled, bipartisan leadership. Rather, they see confusion, weakness, and vacillation. Now a new poll finds that a significant majority of Americans are anxious that the President cannot be trusted stop Iran from building nuclear weapons, one of the most important national security issues facing the U.S., Israel and our Arab allies.”
“Fallujah: Insurgents in Iraq have added water to their arsenal of weapons after seizing control of a dam in the west of the country that enables them to flood certain areas and prevent security forces from advancing against them. The dam helps distribute water from the Euphrates river on its course through the western province of Anbar, and is located some 5 kilometres south of the city of Fallujah, which was overrun by militants early this year. Iraqi troops have since been surrounding Fallujah and shelling the city in an effort to dislodge anti-government tribes and insurgent factions including the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil).”
“The militants closed all eight of the dam’s 10 gates one week ago, flooding land upstream and reducing water levels in Iraq’s southern provinces, through which the Euphrates flows before emptying into the Gulf.”
Reminds me of Revelation 16:12:
12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.
I don’t think the bowel judgments are happening now but this kind of news leads to that possibility in the near future.
“The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) strengthens its hold near the Iraqi border,” reads the headline of London-based daily Al-Hayat, featuring a photo of bearded Syrian fighters on the backdrop of the black Al-Qaeda flag. According to the report, the fighters in Syria advanced toward the border with Iraq in order to strengthen their communications with their comrades on the other side. A member of the Syria Observatory for Human Rights told AFP news agency that the Jihadist fighters attacked the border city of Al-Bukamal and clashed with other Islamist opposition members from Al-Nusra Front.”
“The move indoors is the latest sign of the deep financial crisis plaguing Hamas, which is suffering its worst money woes and ammunition shortage since taking power. Israel and Egypt have maintained a blockade of the seaside strip since Hamas seized power from the rival forces of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in 2007.”
“The Egyptian army is planning to install a system that would detect tunnels along the Gaza-Sinai border over the coming week, Egyptian military sources told Palestinian news agency Ma’an. The system will include advanced cameras and sensors, the sources said. The Egyptian army has been fighting terrorism in the peninsula for a long day. So far, the army has destroyed some 1,500 tunnels.”
