Articles of the Day 5/8/14: Lessons Not Learned

Israel Air Force is deadlier than ever

“Israel Air Force (IAF) Commander Major-General Amir Eshel and senior IAF officers believe it is possible – and even more: With the intelligence, the arms and aircraft available at the Air Force’s disposal, they believe it could reach the described achievements on its own, without the IDF having to maneuver its way into enemy territory, and it must be allowed to do so.”

Same misguided mindset that was before the 2006 war. Lessons were not learned in the IAF.

Most Israelis support peace talks freeze, poll shows

“Nearly 70% think PM is focusing on the wrong priorities — but overall, they’re optimistic about Israel’s future”

Terror Victim Group Blames Livni, Aharonovich for ‘Price Tags’

“If Israel is suffering from a rash of “price tag” attacks, it’s not Jewish youth from Judea and Samaria that are to blame – it’s Foreign Minister Tzippy Livni and Public Security Minister Yitzchak Aharonovich who must shoulder the responsibility, said Dr. Aryeh Bachrach, head of the Almagor Bereaved Parents’ Forum.”

Inching Toward Civil War?

“An exchange of emails between young Jewish settlers has many in Israel worried that the nation could be inching toward civil war over the issue of future control of the land. A cause of grave concern ever since the forced withdrawal of Jews from Gaza in 2005 has been the use of violence by both those carrying out the evacuation, and those being evacuated, a situation that could easily result in Jews spilling Jewish blood.
A number of times in recent months, Israeli authorities have demolished illegally built homes and structures in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, the so-called “West Bank.” In the Samarian community of Yitzhar, in particular, these demolitions have been marked by violence.”

MK Elkin: Lots More Incitement Coming From Arabs Than From Jews

“The government should, and must, prosecute Jews who incite against the IDF or the state, Deputy Foreign Minister Zeev Elkin said Thursday – but what about the incitement that comes out of mosques and the Arab media? “Police must enforce the law equally,” Elkin said on Israel Radio Thursday. “If police go after Eliraz Fein from Yitzhar for incitement, they must go after Arab imams who say much worse.”

Peres’ delusional dream

“In Israel, there is a small group of people, whose size is inversely proportional to its influence, who refuse to let themselves be confused by reality. For years, members of this group have worked relentlessly to convince Israelis that the Palestinians are right and that the State of Israel must do everything it can to placate them, including compromising our basic security interests.”
