Articles of the Day 5/22/14: Hamas Child Abuse
“The Palestinian Authority has done little to boost growth. It is deeply corrupt; in December, the European Court of Auditors reported that the PA had been using European funds to pay Gaza workers who had not worked for seven years, prompting the EU to rethink its aid policy. Palestinian officials also oppose Israeli investment in the West Bank, said Arye Hillman, an economist at Bar-Ilan University who has studied labor markets in Israel and the West Bank.”
“Iran has explicitly stated many times that it wants to destroy Israel,” Zibakalam said. “None of the other countries that have a nuclear program have stated that they want to destroy a country.” According to the Iranian Students’ News Agency, the issue of Israel was raised as Zibakalam addressed the pressure and sanctions Iran has faced over its nuclear program.”
“The Jordanian Islamist groups are heading toward more militancy, extremism and fundamentalism, until they reach the stage of armed jihadism, the politician said. The politician gave this example: The recent events in Maan were a clear warning and an alarm bell that rang in the ears of all Jordanians and of everyone concerned with the situation in Jordan. Starting on April 23, the Jordanian province in the south has seen a complete security breakdown and serious armed unrest. The events began with the killing of a fundamentalist by the state’s security forces as they were trying to arrest him. Matters suddenly evolved into armed confrontations and a kind of civil disobedience.”
“One of the militant Syrian rebel groups provided access to advanced U.S. missiles said that it is seeking “the return of all Syrian land occupied by Israel,” a stance that could potentially complicate U.S. military support to the armed rebel group.”
“In a video released by Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), a young girl recently was shown on Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV on May 16 reciting a violent poem, as part of a children’s program commemorating “Nakba Day,” a day of Palestinian lament over the establishment of the State of Israel.”
This is child abuse. Why is the UN not investigating, opening probes, and condemning this ?
“Syria had the audacity to claim that “the health conditions of the Syrian population in the occupied Golan continue to deteriorate,” because of Israel’s “inhumane practices.” This, at a time when more than 160,000 are estimated to have been killed in the country, and millions of others are denied basic health services and food, for which there is no WHO resolution.
The text of the resolution, tabled by Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, is shorter and contains milder language compared to the one from last year. Yet, it is regrettable that anti-Israel bias continues to poison UN meetings, no matter the topic or context.”
“President Barack Obama phone Jordan’s King Abdullah early Thursday to discuss the worsening war situation in southern Syria and the threat it poses to Jordan. DEBKAfile’s military sources have been covering in detail the unfolding battles in southern Syria and Golan close to the Jordanian and Israeli borders and the defensive steps taken by the two armies in case of cross-border spillover.”
“The perception in the Middle East and the Arab World is that the United States of America, supposed leader of the free world and international superstar, is becoming weaker according to Avi Gil who is a senior fellow at the Jewish People Policy Planning Institute, who also said that America no longer leads as it once did but now follows or leads from behind.”
“Palestinian Authority (PA) and Arab Christian sources are already celebrating Pope Francis’s visit to Israel starting next Sunday, saying his choice to begin the trip directly in PA-held Bethlehem is meant to “recognize Palestine” and “oppose the occupation.”
