Articles of the Day 6/19/14: The Logic of Evil
“The bloody carnage wrought by Al Qaeda-aligned militants in their quest to establish a caliphate that spans portions of Iraq and Syria has left Kurds disgusted and ready to defend to the death their northern lands — even with outdated, often unreliable weapons.”
“Hamas, Hezbollah, Taliban, Al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood are names that the civilized world has grown accustomed to hear about on the eight-o’clock News. Just when we thought that we had seen the worst of it all, we are now being faced with another group that makes Al-Qaeda look like moderates. How dangerous do they have to be for Al-Qaeda to decide to disassociate themselves from this new splinter group in February 2014? Very dangerous!”
“With Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant fighters, flags and emblems everywhere, there is no mistaking who controls the north Syria city of Raqa.”
“(CNN) — Last week, Iraq’s second-largest city of Mosul fell to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS. In a few hours, the city’s security forces had dropped their weapons and uniforms and fled. Since then, the militants introduced a political charter in Mosul and marched south, seizing additional towns en route to the capital, Baghdad.”
Excellent maps and information.
“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama said on Thursday the United States would send up to 300 military advisers to support Iraqi forces confronting an al Qaeda-inspired insurgency and was prepared to take targeted military action if it was necessary.”
Weak response. Won’t change much on the ground unless air power used.
“(AINA) — Sources in Tikrit and Mosul have told AINA that ISIS has cut off water and electricity to some parts of the cities. The villages surrounding Mosul have also lost their water service, which was provided by the water purification plant in Mosul. In the Assyrian villages of Bartella and Qaraqosh, residents are now buying water at 7,000 Iraqi Dinars per cubic meter ($6.25). Village leaders are calling for relief, as the residents cannot afford to purchase water at these rates.”
Israel Crisis: As I write this sirens are blaring and rockets are falling in southern Israel.
“A senior Hamas political leader has praised the organization’s kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers, calling the attack “a heroic capture” and “a milestone” for the Palestinian people. The statements of Muhammad Nazal reflect the views of other Hamas leaders, who routinely glorify the abduction and murder of Israelis.”
“Israeli troops carried out night raids on 9 Hamas-related financial institutions in Hebron, Nablus, Ramallah and Jenin and collected documents tied to the funding of terrorist operations and money laundering. Another 30 detainees were rounded up and 100 buildings and institutions swept in Hebron in the search for a lead to the three Israeli teenagers now missing for six days. Around 280 Palestinians are in detention, including 53 former prisoners released for Gilead Shalit four years ago.”
“Hamas threatens Israel, says kidnapping Israeli teens a “legitimate right.”
The logic of evil.
“Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Thursday that although the three teens kidnapped by Hamas terrorists last week have yet to be found, Israel is closer to discovering their whereabouts.”
“Senior security source reports that Hamas leadership abroad thought responsible for kidnapping, in particular Salah al-Arouri in Turkey.”
“Those who ignore the study of end times prophecy are fond of quoting this famous line which appears in various forms in Matt. 24:36, Matt. 24:42,44, Matt. 24:50 and Matt 25:13 as their justification. But earlier in the same passage, the Lord had admonished all who would read His words of prophecy to understand them (Matt 24:15) and elsewhere the Apostle Paul wrote that the events leading up to the end of the age should not take believers by surprise (1 Thes 5:4) implying that we should have done enough homework to see them coming.”
“AMMAN (BNS): Jordan has inked an agreement with Europe’s Airbus Defence and Space and US’s ATK to convert one of its two C295 military transport aircraft into a gunship. Under the agreement, Airbus and ATK will cooperatively work with the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) of Jordan in converting the aircraft operated by the Royal Jordanian Air Force into gunship configuration. The new configuration AC295 will join two AC-235 gunships that were delivered to Jordan by ATK in May this year. The AC295 gunship configuration will be based on the AC-235 light gunship which includes integrated mission and fire control systems, electro-optical and radar sensors, Hellfire missiles, ATK’s side-mounted M230 30mm chain gun, an integrated defensive suite and 2.75 inch guided rockets, Airbus Military announced.”
