Articles of the Day 8/14/14: Being Reckless
Israel-Hamas Conflict 2014
“A report in the Wall Street Journey revealed how deep the rift is in the relations between the two countries. According to the report, the White House surprisingly froze the Hellfire missile deal that was approved by the US military. A senior level American official: “Netanyahu and his team are reckless and not trustworthy.”
Is defending Israeli civilians now considered ‘reckless’ by the Obama administration? If you want to talk about what is reckless perhaps we should talk about Libya and Iraq. Both are messes now and all by Obama’s hand. Kettle black?
“After the abandonment of Israel by the UK, with its promise to limit arms sales to Israel if Hamas restarts its attacks on our civilians, we now learn that the US is already restricting arms sales to Israel, having halted a planned supply of the Hellfire precision missiles that enable Israel to strike at the rocket launchers set up by Hamas in the heart of Gaza’s residential areas.”
So after Hamas fires over 3,000 rockets at Israeli civilians Obama and the UK halt weapons sales to Israel. Obama proving once again he is more of a friend to terrorists then to allies. So blind he is to what is evil and what is good. Israel did not initiate this conflict.
PRAYER: Heavenly father, please give Israeli leaders the courage to stand up to US/Western pressure. As long as Israel has you Lord they don’t need them.
“Israeli officials responding to the latest pressure from US President Barack Obama said the American leader is weak and naive, suggesting that Washington, which today has little leverage anywhere else in the Middle East, is trying to strong-arm the Jewish state.”
“Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal has been the central force preventing a long-term truce between Israel and the Palestinians to halt more than a month of hostilities on the Gaza front, Channel 2 quoted an Israeli diplomatic source as saying on Thursday.”
“The media are the main source of information about damage to infrastructure and casualties, especially civilian. Western media coverage of Operation Protective Edge in Gaza has been marred by an anti-Israeli bias and professional and ethical failures. They have been visible in print and electronic media: pictures, videos, headlines, reports, statistics, editorials, op-ed articles and cartoons. This was particularly noticeable in the European media, especially in British newspapers such as the Guardian and the Independent.”
“Channel 2 News’ military analyst Roni Daniel slams the Israeli decision to extend a ceasefire for five days.”
“UNHRC gives legitimacy to murderous terror organisations like Hamas and Daash (Islamic State),” he said, accusing the rights body of overlooking “massacres” committed elsewhere in the Middle East in favour of investigating Israel for defending itself against rocket attacks from Gaza.”
“Only by holding on to a territory can a country make sure that territory remains disarmed. Only by holding on to that territory can the country have enough boots on the ground to gather the necessary intelligence it needs to prevent attacks against it.”
“International petition with 13,000 signatures calls on Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to prosecute the leaders of Hamas and Qatar.”
“Watch harrowing video of raucous Muslim mob pursuing three Jews, day before Knesset Committee discusses status quo.”
Sunni-Shiite Civil War
“BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Islamic State militants are massing near the Iraqi town of Qara Tappa, 122 km (73 miles) north of Baghdad, security sources and a local official said, in an apparent bid to broaden their front with Kurdish peshmerga fighters.”
“A key factor in the Islamic State’s success is its unfettered ability to stage operations from Syria. News reports this week reveal that IS has established a sanctuary and is operating unchallenged from the Syrian city of Raqqa. This is where, according to the Wall Street Journal, “Islamic State’s black flags still fly proudly over administrative buildings and living quarters,” and new recruits arrive—with their families—by the busload daily from Turkey. Much of the surplus American military equipment IS seized from the collapsing Iraqi army has also flowed back across the border.”
“Members of Turkey’s parliament allege that the government still supports jihadis — facilitating their travel at border crossings between Turkey and Syria, providing truckloads of weapons, and offering health care at Turkish state hospitals to wounded warriors.”
“Syrian rebels could suffer their biggest setback of the war as government troops and Islamic militants are encircling the key northwestern city of Aleppo.”
“President Obama, after months of dithering, finally authorized air strikes against ISIS, which are helping to slow down their advance against the Kurds in northern Iraq and to provide space for urgent humanitarian relief to besieged minority groups under threat of genocide by ISIS jihadists. However, as welcome as this is, the president still views ISIS as a local Iraqi problem to be dealt with by instituting a more inclusive centralized government in Baghdad rather than seeing ISIS as part of a much larger global ideological threat.”
“REYHANLI, Turkey — Before their blitz into Iraq earned them the title of the Middle East’s most feared insurgency, the jihadists of the Islamic State treated this Turkish town near the Syrian border as their own personal shopping mall.”
“BAGHDAD (Reuters) – The governor of Iraq’s Sunni heartland Anbar Province said he has asked for and secured U.S. support in the battle against Islamic State militants because opponents of the group may not have the stamina for a long fight.”
“However, its more immediate impact was to expand the circles of ISIS opponents within the Arab world. Elements that were initially either implicitly or overtly supportive of the organization’s invasion of Iraq because of its war against Iraq’s Shi’ites and also because these elements themselves support Iraqi Sunnis’ opposition to the regime of recently deposed Iraqi prime minister Nouri Al-Maliki – such as Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi’s International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) – have now joined the camp of ISIS’s opponents.”
