Articles of the Day 9/16/14: Damascus On The Brink?

Israel Borders

Ya’alon: The coming year will not be quiet on the security front

“Causes of instability include the presence of multiple terror organizations in Gaza, heavy fighting in Syria, and Iran’s strategy of becoming a nuclear break-out state, defense minister says.”

First they take Damascus, not Jerusalem

“He described a gradual process of destruction that led to the rise of the rebel forces and said that once the fighting has been finished in the villages south and east of Quneitra, in al-Madeira and Ahmadiyeh, and in the last regime “pocket” on the flanks of the Hermon, in the Druze village of Khader, the rebels will use the highway linking the border city of Quneitra to Damascus, a mere 40-kilometer stretch of road, to take the fight to the capital — swiftly, he predicted — and not to march on Jerusalem, as some have suggested.”

It does make sense to take out Assad first then focus on Israel second. Make no mistake though at some future point Israel will be in the cross hairs.

Poll: Half of Palestinians support armed intifada against Israel

“The poll found that 57% of respondents expected the eruption of a third intifada in the West Bank. Only 32% said they did not expect such a thing to happen.”

Difficult to see how Israel can find peace with such people.

Islamic Civil War

REPORT: ISIS Repulsed from Damascus

“Arab media outlets reported that the Syrian Army was able to harm the terror organizations’ facilities and forces in the Jobar area, which is east of the Syrian capital city. According to the report, the Syrian Army continues to fight against the terrorist organization and take over cities occupied by ISIS.”

IS putting pressure on Damascus. Is it only a matter of time? Should Damascus fall let us all remember Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49.

Dempsey: Half of Iraqi army not OK as US partners

“PARIS (AP) — About half of Iraq’s army is incapable of partnering effectively with the U.S. to roll back the Islamic State group’s territorial gains in western and northern Iraq, and the other half needs to be partially rebuilt with U.S. training and additional equipment, the top U.S. military officer said Wednesday.”

Wow, so much for that cog in the US strategy. You don’t hear them media say it but clearly Obama blew it by withdrawing troops too soon.

Iraq Situation Report: September 15-16, 2014

U.S. general says cannot rule out larger ground role in Iraq

“WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The most senior U.S. military officer raised the possibility on Tuesday that U.S. troops might need to take on a larger ground role as they fend off Islamic State militants in Iraq, but the White House stressed there would be no combat mission for U.S. ground forces.”

Obama Insiders Frustrated Over Reluctance to Attack Syria and Iraq

“President Barack Obama recently dismissed his critics who argue that arming the Syrian moderate opposition long ago would have made a difference in the fight against Bashar al-Assad. But louder than ever those critics – some from within his own administration – are saying, “We told you so.”

ISIS Draws a Steady Stream of Recruits From Turkey

“So far, Mr. Erdogan has resisted pleas to take aggressive steps against the group, citing the fate of 49 Turkish hostages ISIS has held since militants took over Iraq’s second-largest city, Mosul, in June. Turkey declined to sign a communiqué last Thursday that committed a number of regional states to take “appropriate” new measures to counter ISIS, frustrating American officials.”

Turkey ‘Would Welcome’ Exiled Muslim Brotherhood Leaders

“Turkey-Egypt tensions spike further as Erdogan offers new home to Islamists booted out of Qatar, rejects reports he is buying oil from ISIS.”

Building Israel’s Temple

“Q. I truly believe we are in the last days. There is so much evidence of it in society’s ways and just how everything is playing out. I have a question, however. I realize that Israel is getting closer and closer to being ready to rebuild the Temple. Could it be rebuilt, in your estimation, within a few years?

A. Only two things have to happen. Israel has to want a Temple and the world has to agree. I believe both these conditions will be met in the aftermath of the Battle of Ezekiel 38. The Lord’s miraculous victory in that battle will serve the purpose of opening Israel’s eyes to His presence in their national life and will prompt their desire for a Temple. At that time the anti-Christ will confirm a covenant of peace that will include a provision for a Temple. Once those things happen construction will proceed quickly. Much of the work that doesn’t involve the actual building has been done and more is being completed each day. Some say the building is being put together in parts and will only need to be assembled, but I haven’t seen any evidence of that. What I do know is that 3.5 years after the go ahead is given, the anti-Christ will stand in the Holy Place and declare himself to be God (Daniel 9:27, 2 Thes. 2:4) causing the Abomination of Desolation and kicking off the Great Tribulation.”

Israel Regathered, Bible Prophecy Fulfilled: Most Important Prophetic Development

“In this “The Truth Will Set You Free” episode, we’ll marvel at how Israel being a nation again fulfills one of the most prolific prophecies in all the Old Testament. The first half of the discussion is in English, while the second half is translated into Spanish.”

The Sound Of Trumpets

“Q. My wife has heard 4 trumpet sounds in 4 years, she feels that another 3 and then something momentous will happen. I have researched on the Net and many people have heard these but not all at the same time. I thought that the trumpet calls would happen in the tribulation.

A. The trumpets in the tribulation announce the seven trumpet judgments of Rev. 8:6 – 11:19 will be sounded in heaven, not on Earth. The only trumpet mentioned in the Bible that pertains to Earth will be the trumpet call of God calling the Church up to meet the Lord in the rapture (1 Cor. 15:51-53, 1 Thes. 4:16-17). There will only be one of those. I have read of trumpet choruses sounding in various parts of the world over the last several years and have listened to the recordings of these choruses, but what you’re describing sounds like something different. If these are a sign of some kind, they are not included among those mentioned in the Bible.”

Warning! Now Entering the “End Time Zone”!

“We are living in the end times my friends, like it or not.  I know that I keep stating this over and over again, but the evil and wickedness in the world is growing faster each and everyday!  While the tensions between Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza seem to have quieted down, don’t let that fool you.  This is merely the “quiet before the storm”.  I feel that things are about to get much worse in the world. “

If a teacher teaches some things wrongly, but the Gospel rightly, is it OK to follow them?

“A lot of people wonder when it is reasonable to leave off following a teacher. What are the standards for giving loving benefit of the doubt, and banning them completely from your mind, your church, and your home? Both are called for in the bible.”
