Articles of the Day 9/19/14: Elusive Peace
“IDF erecting cement blocks to conceal troop movements near Metulla, says news agency.”
“After a rocket was fired at southern communities for the first time since the end of Operation Protective Edge – and as preparation for the upcoming holidays and the resumption of talks in Cairo next week – The Defense Ministry decided to deploy Iron Dome Systems in a few points in the South.”
“Israeli intelligence officials told Reuters that Syria has not eradicated all of the chemical weapons they possess. According to them, the use of these weapons against Israel “would finish the game” for Syria.”
I think everyone knew WMDs were still in play with Assad. What a fool Obama looks right now though.
“Antonio Forzieri, a top executive at Symantec, praises combination of speed, knowledge, skill of Israeli cyber-experts.”
“If Hamas does not like you for any reason all they have to do now is say you are a Mossad agent and kill you.” — A., a Fatah member in Gaza.
“Hamas wanted us butchered so it could win the media war against Israel showing our dead children on TV and then get money from Qatar.” — T., former Hamas Ministry officer.
“They would fire rockets and then run away quickly, leaving us to face Israeli bombs for what they did.” — D., Gazan journalist.
“Hamas imposed a curfew: anyone walking out in the street was shot. That way people had to stay in their homes, even if they were about to get bombed. Hamas held the whole Gazan population as a human shield.” — K., graduate student
“The Israeli army allows supplies to come in and Hamas steals them. It seems even the Israelis care for us more than Hamas.” — E., first-aid volunteer.
“We are under Hamas occupation, and if you ask most of us, we would rather be under Israeli occupation… We miss the days when we were able to work inside Israel and make good money. We miss the security and calm Israel provided when it was here.” — S., graduate of an American university, former Hamas sympathizer.”
I do feel bad for these people. They voted Hamas into power now they are paying a very heavy price. Ironically, Israel is their greatest hope.
“In advance of the UN Human Rights Council investigation of Israeli “war crimes” in Gaza this summer, the Lawfare Project has compiled a detailed list of “Hamas’s Violations of International Law.”
The UNHRC has appointed a three-member committee to investigate “all violations of international humanitarian law” during the recent war in Gaza. It explained its one-sided intentions by “condemn[ing] in the strongest terms the widespread, systematic and gross violations of international human rights and fundamental freedoms arising from the Israeli military operations…”
The New York-based Lawfare Project attempts to safeguard against the abuse of the law as a weapon of war. It turned its attentions this month to ensuring that international law is not turned against Israel, in the face of Hamas indiscriminate rocket and tunnel attacks against Israel.
It is well-known that Hamas used, in various ways, its civilian population as shields in the face of Israeli missile attacks, while firing rockets at Israeli population centers and tunneling into Israel for the purpose of facilitating terrorist attacks. However, the exact international laws that Hamas has violated are not widely understood, and the Lawfare Project has prepared an 11-page document to fill in this gap.
The document lists the specific rule violated by Hamas, and provides documentation of the violations. For instance, Rule 1 of Customary International Humanitarian Law is the Principle of Distinction between Civilians and Combatants. The Lawfare Project notes that the U.S. State Department has condemned Hamas rocket fire on Israeli civilians, and Hamas itself declared that all Israelis had become targets for its missile attacks.
Hamas has admitted violating the rule requiring advance warning of attacks, and the UN Relief and Works Agency said it found rockets hidden by Hamas in a school – in violation of Rule 22 (Precautions Against the Effects of Attacks).
The full Lawfare Project report can be seen here.
Further underlining the expected anti-Israel bias and decisions of the UNHRC commission is its chairman, William Schabas, who has frequently accused Israel and its leaders of war crimes in the past.”
“Terror attack or just criminal? Mystery deepens after Iranians attempt to board flight to Tel Aviv with stolen passports.”
“Al-Qassam Brigades admit death in ‘underground activities’; Hamas leader has said Brigades dug terror tunnels in last lull.”
“Abbas’s official TV in uncanny anti-Semitic form, calling up hateful Quran reference to Jews as ‘barbaric monkeys’ and ‘wretched pigs.'”
“While the PA has often been held up as a “moderate” alternative to Hamas by many in the West, PMW notes the poem’s reference to Jews as “monkeys and pigs” hails from the anti-Semitic Islamic tradition of the Quran, in which three different chapters say Allah turned Jews into “apes” and “swine” for disobeying him (Suras 2:65, 5:60 and 7:166).”
These are the same people whom Obama, Kerry, and Livni claim peace can be found. How naive and foolish.
“I came to the Ziv Medical Center to thank the hospital for treating hundreds of men, women and children who received medical care at the highest level and emotional support in light of the serious incidents they experienced in the war in Syria. This treatment is not only for the specific child or woman, but for all of Syria, that’s how we feel and everyone knows it and talks about it. Assad in Syria claims that the Israelis are the enemy, but here in the hospital we who Israel really is. I ask: who is really the enemy? Assad who murders our people, or Israel which treats them?” continued Al-Labwani.”
“Dr. Hussein Ibish, senior fellow at the American Task Force on Palestine, makes a claim that contradicts the Bible when he said recently that the decision makers working to determine who has a right to live in the Biblical lands of Judea and Samaria should not use the Bible in this process. Ibish says the Bible is an ancient Jewish holy book that is irrelevant to the discussions on the ownership of these ancient Biblical lands even though the Bible has an undeniable record of 4000 years of Jewish history in the land that God gave to the Jewish people.”
Yes the Palestinians would like us to ignore God’s word in the Bible but, as believers, for us that is impossible. For non-believers like Obama, Kerry, and Livni it is certainly doable. That is why the Left has such an easy time giving away Jewish land to Arabs. To believers ‘Land for Peace’ contradicts Gods word. Also note, that is why for over 66 years peace is elusive.
“The Islamic State currently controls the Jarabulus crossing to the west and the Tal Abayd crossing to the east. Control of the crossings allows the IS to control the flow of weapons, recruits cash, and material coming in from Turkey, and also restricts the Kurdish rebels’ access to northern Aleppo and Raqqah provinces.”
“Thousands of Kurds flee to border as ISIS takes 21 border towns; Turkey initially doesn’t let them in – same night 21 wounded Gazans let in.”
IS is making good on their end of the deal with Turkey to eradicate Kurds from Turkish borders. Think about this, IS basically removes the Kurdish problem for Turkey. IS has invaded all Kurdish land across Northern Syrian and Iraq. I am convinced more then ever Turkey is behind the IS monster. We can speculate the deal is to allow IS fighters to transit Turkey if IS goes after the Kurds.
“The Nigerian jihadist group Boko Haram, known for its kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls, has deepened its connection to the Middle East terror army ISIS by forming an information and materiel-support alliance, according to sources.”
“On September 18, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) launched a complex attack likely targeting the Adala Prison in Baghdad’s Kadhmiyah neighborhood in northern Baghdad. According to the Baghdad Operations Command, the attack was intended to break into the prison but was foiled. ISIS also launched another attack in Baghdad’s Iskan neighborhood that likely targeted the offices of the Iraqi Shi’a political group and militia, the Badr Organization.”
“The successful ISIS advance in the wake of its June 2014 capture of the Iraqi city of Mosul has prompted a shift in rival al-Qaeda group JN’s disposition within Syria. JN has abandoned its former center of gravity in Deir ez-Zour province in favor of consolidating control in Idlib Province.
This shift represents a transition by JN away from discreet influence within outwardly rebel-dominated structures that had characterized its activities in Deir ez-Zour.
JN advances on the Syrian-Turkish border helps to replace revenue lost to ISIS from the oil fields in Deir ez-Zour. It also allows JN to regroup deep within the rebel center of gravity in northwestern Syria.
A campaign to “counter corruption” in Idlib served as the pretext for JN’s seizure of control. Rebel participation in this anti-corruption activity has allowed JN to reaffirm its influence within rebel ranks.
Despite abandoning its involvement in joint Shari’a courts alongside prominent rebel groups, JN is unlikely to divert from its desired end state of an Islamic State in a post-Assad Syria.”
“Washington (AFP) – US aircraft have targeted a training camp for Islamic State jihadists in northern Iraq, bombing buildings, fighters and vehicles in the first such air strike, military officers said Thursday.”
“Q. I did a search for pre trib rapture and came across a site claiming to destroy the pre-trib position with just one verse. What would be your response to him? I would like to know in case someone ever challenges me with this question.
A. When someone claims that with just one verse he can destroy the pre-trib position, you should be suspicious right from the start because we’re admonished to consider the whole counsel of God in studying His word to avoid the very mistake this person has made. He took a single verse and made it say something that the context of the passage it’s contained in didn’t intend.
The verse he used is 2 Thes. 2:3 and the passage it’s contained in is 2 Thes 2:1-4.
Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for (that day will not come) until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. (2 thes. 2:1-4)
Right off the bat we see that Paul is addressing two issues, 1) the coming of the Lord, and 2) our being gathered to Him. These are two separate events. In the 2nd coming He comes down to Earth to set up His kingdom here here. In the rapture He calls us up to meet Him in the air and takes us to Heaven to be with Him there. They involve opposite directions. Also, you can’t build post trib doctrine on this passage because Paul put them in reverse order to further distinguish them from each other. Even post trib believers agree the rapture will happen before the 2nd Coming.
Then he went on to explain the conditions surrounding each one. Before the 2nd coming we’ll have a great apostasy, the anti-Christ will be revealed and he will defile the Temple (2 Thes. 2:3-4). Then in 2 Thes. 2:6-8 Paul said that the anti-Christ can’t be revealed until the restrainer is taken out of the way, or literally out of the midst. This restrainer is the Holy Spirit resident in the Church. And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. (2 Thes. 2:6-8)
So the order in these verses is before the anti-Christ is revealed the restrainer will be taken out of the midst, then the anti-Christ will be revealed, then the Lord will overthrow him. Combine the two and we have the great apostasy (already happening) the Church taken out of the way, the anti-Christ revealed, the Temple defiled, and the Lord overthrowing him. Any other order would contradict that Paul said in 1 Thes. 1:10 , 1 Thes 5:9, Romans 5:9 where he promised that Jesus will deliver us from the coming wrath because we’re not appointed to suffer wrath. It would also contradict what Jesus said about keeping us from the time of trial coming upon the whole earth to test those who dwell on the earth (Rev. 3:10).”
Paul criticized the Thessalonians for being so easily alarmed by a letter that turned out to be a forgery, saying the Day of the Lord had already come. Think about that. If he had taught them a post-trib rapture position, they would have known that in just a few years they’d be in Eternity. Scary, yes. But panic, no. The only way this false information could have caused them to be alarmed would be if he had taught them a pre-trib position, because that would mean they had missed the Rapture. And that would mean they weren’t saved. Now that’s cause for alarm. 2nd Thessalonians is the clearest indication anywhere in the New Testament that the first rapture position ever taught in the Church was the pre-trib position. But like the Thessalonians, we become too easily alarmed when we hear a different view because we don’t know our Bible well enough to stand our ground. Shame on us.
