Articles of the Day 10/1/14: Turkey Games
“Arab rioters hurling rocks, fireworks and molotov cocktails at a Jewish infant day care center on Ma’ale Hazeitim, the Jewish neighborhood on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, were caught on film on Tuesday in further testimony to the ongoing “silent intifada” in the capital.”
You have to ask yourself, do the Palestinians really deserve a state? Are they really victims or instigators?
“Light rail CEO says police told him not to report incidents to the press; mayor ‘angered’ that train officials spoke to media.”
Very odd, Israeli officials covering up for Palestinian crimes. This will only encourage them.
“PA leaders and press grant Hamas terrorists highest status in Islam, while delegitimizing Israel’s elimination of them.”
“The speech yesterday was the way to tell the world that the two-state solution had died. Netanyahu told the world that Abbas and Hamas are the same, they want to destroy Israel,” she said.
“Hamas has 2,000 rockets left, defense minister says; former southern general admits earlier mistakes in handling tunnel threat.”
“Terrorist activity by Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis has increased in recent weeks. Presumably the organization’s growing activity in Sinai, which is spilling over into Egyptian cities, is affected by the tightening of its relations with non-Egyptian terrorist organizations, headed by ISIS and Salafi jihadi affiliates from the Gaza Strip, and constitutes a strong challenge to the sense of security and stability of the el-Sisi regime. This is the background to the recently heightened activity by the Egyptian army against terrorism in Sinai.”
“The IDF Field Intelligence Corps is responsible for monitoring Israel’s most sensitive borders. Hundreds of observers, most of them female soldiers, scan video monitors around the clock, searching for the smallest details.”
“ARBIL Iraq/MURSITPINAR Turkey (Reuters) – Iraqi Kurdish troops drove Islamic State fighters from a strategic border crossing with Syria on Tuesday and won the support of members of a major Sunni tribe, in one of the biggest successes since U.S. forces began bombing the Islamists.”
Sunni tribes starting to turn against IS?
“The “Islamic State” has freed more than 70 Kurdish school children its fighters kidnapped in northern Syria in May.”
They obviously got their demands met. Parents probably paid off IS.
“The Islamic State released photographs of last week’s rout of an Iraqi Army unit in the Saqwaliya area north of Fallujah in Anbar province. More than 300 Iraqi troops are reported to have been killed in the attack.”
“Government won’t yet reveal what action against Islamic State fighters might entail.”
Everyone thinks Turkey is going to join the coalition against IS. I am not convinced of that. It is just as likely Turkey will attack Kurd forces in support of IS.
“Jihadists tend to release Turkish captives rather than face the consequences of upsetting Ankara.”
Everyday more evidence come out that points to Turkey (along with Qatar) as the key supporter of IS.
“ANKARA, Turkey — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that a “no-fly zone” should be created in Syria to protect part of it from attacks by Syria’s air force.”
Turkey wants a no fly zone so ISIS will be protected from Syrian (and perhaps US) airstrikes. Funny how this is coming up again just after US strikes start.
“Nusra Front, or Jabhat al-Nusra, has been facing mounting pressure from its own members to reconcile with its rival and form a united front against the air strikes, which began in Syria last week, after the American fight against Islamic State began in Iraq in August.”
“His dream of a Middle East with political Islam, the Muslim Brotherhood and Turkey at its heart seems to be fading as chaos in Syria and Iraq threatens its borders and diplomatic ties with Egypt, the Arab world’s most populous nation, remain broken.”
“CAIRO (Reuters) – Egypt has offered to train pro-government forces battling rival armed groups in Libya, stepping up efforts to eradicate what it says is a threat to its own stability from the anarchy engulfing its neighbor.”
“Washington (AFP) – The US Marine Corps plans to deploy 2,300 troops to the Middle East for a new unit designed to quickly respond to crises in the volatile region, the Pentagon said Tuesday.”
“Jordanian Chief of Staff held a press conference to announce that listening devices hidden by Israel in Northern Jordan in 1969 were destroyed, following information given by Israel.”
Interesting cooperation between two former enemies. Flies in the face of Psalm 83 though.
“Pope Francis concluded his homily by encouraging those present to pray to the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, and to recite the prayer to Saint Michael often.”
I know Catholics have long prayed to ‘saints’ but this is really idol worship. God finds this offensive. Read Revelation 22:8-9
8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me.9 But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”
The Pope is leading many astray to the wide gate.
“Q. You have stated that everyone who is ‘saved’, has accepted Jesus’ marvelous sacrifice and depends entirely on His finished work for salvation, will be taken in the Rapture, and I agree. My question concerns Luke 21:36 where Jesus says ‘to keep awake and pray always that you may be ACCOUNTED WORTHY to escape all these things and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man”. This seems to say that there is something we have to do to be accounted worthy, would you explain this? Also, do you see a connection between this passage and I Thess. 5:23,24 ?
A. Numerous verses tell us the only work God requires of us is to believe in the one He sent (John 3:16, John 6:28-29, John 6:40, Romans 10:9, etc). Therefore, our belief that Jesus died for our sins and rose again is the only thing that can make us worthy.
1 Thes 5:23-24 reads as follows;
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. Paul was speaking a benediction to the Church in Thessalonica. His prayer was that God would do for them all that He promised, and included the reassurance that being faithful, God would do just that. It is He who sanctifies us (1 Cor. 6:11), and it is He who keeps us blameless (Ephes. 5:25-27). If Luke 21:36 means more than belief is required, then it would contradict 1 Thes 5:23-24 as well as the other verses I cited. But if belief is all that’s required, it doesn’t. Therefore, since the Bible, being the Word of God, cannot be self contradictory 1 Thes 5:23-24 confirms that Luke 21:36 equates worthiness with belief.”
“Q. I Read your article on Why the Jews reject Jesus as the Messiah. I feel one of the important reasons is because God has hardened their hearts and second is if you look at who is rejecting Christ, is it not the same crowd who were present 2000 years ago??? The Rabbis, Saducees & Pharisees. Ordinary Jewish people are accepting Jesus by the hundreds of thousands.
A. Remember, in the article I was only responding to reasons given on a Jewish anti-missionary site for the Jewish rejection of Jesus as their Messiah. Jewish people don’t believe their rejection of Him is caused by God hardening their hearts, and that’s why I didn’t mention it. By the way, the current worldwide Jewish population is about 14 million with about 350 thousand being believers in Jesus. So there are still a great many more who reject Him than who have accepted Him.”
