Inner Ring (Countries or terror groups that border Israel)

Soldier stabbed, lightly hurt, during West Bank confrontation

“Palestinian knifeman killed after attacking troops who had been chasing stone throwers near settlement of Yitzhar.”

“Turkish military tanks crossed the border into Syria today (Wednesday). Fighter aircraft of the US-led coalition supported the Turkish forces as they entered the area in what has been defined by a military official in the country as an operation to cleanse the city of Jarabulus of ISIS.”

On the ground: Operation ‘Euphrates Shield’ kicks into high gear

“Turkey’s army backed by international coalition air strikes on Wednesday launched an operation involving fighter jets and tanks to drive Islamic State jihadists out of a key Syrian border town.

The air and ground operation, the most ambitious launched by Turkey in the Syria conflict, is aimed at clearing jihadists from the town of Jarabulus, which lies directly opposite the Turkish town of Karkamis, the prime minister’s office said.”

Turkish tanks roll into Syria to confront Islamic State

“In its report, the Anadolu Agency, which cited unnamed military officals, did not say how many tanks entered Syria. The private NTV television said as many as 20 tanks had crossed into Syria and that clashes were taking place at the border. Earlier in the day, NTV said that a small number of Turkish special forces had crossed into Syria as part of the operation.”

This is a big deal but not all that surprising. Early reports are that the operation is fairly limited in scope, focusing on the town of Jarabulus. They appear to have US approval so maybe relations between the two are not as bad as first thought. Good updates here

Assad Bombs the Kurds: Implications for U.S. Strategy in Syria

“The latest fighting came on the heels of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Moscow to mend ties with Russia. Although the Kremlin’s views about the regime attacks on the PYD are not clear, Turkey’s positions are. Erdogan recently recalibrated his Syria policy: preventing a contiguous PYD-held zone has now taken priority over his erstwhile goal of ousting the Assad regime. In fact, PYD officials argue that Syria and Turkey have decided to collude in order to weaken the group. On August 21, the PYD issued a statement claiming that the attacks “point to Turkish and Iranian coordination with the Baath regime to counter the crystallization of the [Kurdish] democratic project.”

State Dept Warns: Iran Seeking to Capture U.S. Citizens

“The latest travel advisory, which emphasizes Iran’s desire to capture U.S. citizens, comes on the heels of a growing scandal over the Obama administration’s decision to pay Iran $400 million in cash on the same day that it freed several U.S. hostages.”

Yeah, so paying off terrorist governments for hostages is not the greatest of ideas.

Bible Prophecy

The Drumbeat Warning of Divine Judgment on the USA

“There are different kinds of judgments. Judgment can be eschatological and very visible, as the coming prophecies and past histories show us. Judgment can be invisible, secret, and deadly, as God said in Hosea 5:12, I am like a moth to Ephraim, like rot to the people of Judah. Judgment can be an abandonment, as when God simply releases a nation to itself to pursue its sin. (Romans 1:24).”
